About Matthew
What started as a childhood fascination with all things mechanical and an innate need to create, was fostered by the skills learned via a traditional trade school education. An early period spent as a wood machinist in a period and custom home builder on the north shore of Chicago set the foundations for a 35-year love affair with creating one off built-in timber cabinets, boxes and joinery. After a successful career as a commercial builder delivering some of Australia's most important medical research and allied projects, Matthew could no longer resist the call to establish Precision Fit Joinery.
“What I always loved about my commercial building career was that I was constantly involved in one off buildings. Each building, be it a hospital, medical research facility or other civic or university campus project was unique. This uniqueness meant that the building had to function as the designers intended so the users or occupants could successfully do their important work safe in the knowledge the built environment they operated in was there to help them. I wanted to bring this same philosophy to solving our clients unique fitted cabinet design challenges. Joinery that is one off, bespoke and designed to assist the client in how they want to use the space is fundamental to why I started the company. Clients should not have to make do with a mass-produced solution when, with a simple co-design process, we can solve their unique need and provide a solution that works in harmony with their built space and has lasting and intrinsic value.”
